King

KNIGHT

In an "L" shape: two squares in one direction (horizontal or vertical) and then one square perpendicularly. Knights can jump over other pieces.

Rook

Any number of squares horizontally or vertically.

Castling: A special move involving the king and one of the rooks. It allows the king to move two squares towards a rook, and then the rook moves to the square the king crossed over. Castling can only occur if neither the king nor the rook has moved, there are no pieces between them, and the king is not in check and does not move through or into check.
